01. All Shall Fall
02. The Rise Of Darkness
03. Hordes To War
04. Norden On Fire
05. Arctic Swarm
06. Mount North
07. Unearthly Kingdom
'All Shall Fall'
Where 'Sons Of Northern Darkness' rushes out of the gates like a horse with its arse on fire, the opening title track of the new opus flows like cold molasses with snowy industrial ambience. Then it's straight into trademark melodic riffs, colder than an Inuit's snatch with a subtle 'Hanger 18-esque tone and uplifting ascending chords. There's deeper vocalisations, thundering, phased guitar and delicately woven leads making this cross between 'One By One' and 'In My Kingdom Cold' less 'Sons...' part two more Immortal 2.0.
'The Rise Of Darkness'
Bringing back the Bathory, this is a thrashing number that alternates between moments of menace and a mellow mid-paced sweeping chords, the '80s vibe carrying through to a stomping riff part way through.
'Hordes Of War'
Short, sharp, shock of thrashing war metal – albeit with the Immortal sheen to it – it's a brutal burst of pummeling black metal and picks up the slack left by 1349. Pure musical holocaust.
'Norden On Fire'
A drop of pace an another intro, with glacial ambience making way for clean guitars in a cross between a speedier 'Beyond The Northern Waves'/slower 'Cursed Realm Of The Winterdemons'. It's swiftly followed by a vibrant battle riff in an upbeat 'Tyrants' vein, with Furia-esque uber-posi drive.
'Arctic Swarm'
Another blackened thrasher with the pace of an avalanche, the guitars pound like Hephaestus in a workshop while chaotic solos punctuate the mix like a swarm of bees. A riff buffet.
'Mount North'
An intermediary song before the final assault it's not what you'd call filler, but after a snow blizzard sampling intro, it's like a diabolical holocaust battle with blizzard beasts and the damned sons of northern darkness at the heart of winter.
'Unearthly Kingdom'
We've had darkness, war, fire, mount, Arctic, north so it wouldn't be complete without a kingdom thrown in. And at this point it's no longer possible to avoid using that word. This is epic. Organ-like disparate noise introduces the track, with the feel of a less tedious latter-day Burzum before the riff appears like a longboat breaching the fog, the raiders contained therein marching to massive, pounding drum beat that complements the guitars like a well organised industrial complex. The term 'buzzsaw guitars' was made for this song, with some subtle complexes coming to the service the longer it drones on. It comes to a close in triumphant fashion, like victorious raiders marching from a burning village and fading into the horizon.
Re: Immortal
Parece interessante. Suspeito que o tipo de Aura Noir tenha trazido um toque + old school à banda.

Re: Immortal
Cada ano há algo novo. Já tivemos Gorgoroth, Queensryche, e agora pelos vistos é a vez de Immortal:
According to Dagbladet.no, members of the legendary Norwegian black metal band IMMORTAL are involved in a legal dispute over the IMMORTAL trademark. The group's frontman Abbath (real name Olve Eikemo) has attempted to claim rights to the IMMORTAL name via his sole proprietorship Eikemo Compositions. The application has been stopped by a lawyer representing lyricist/guitarist Demonaz (real name Harald Nævdal) and drummer Horgh (real name Reidar Horghagen), who want the IMMORTAL trademark to be shared by all three members.
Demonaz and Horgh's attorney cites section 21 of the Norwegian Trademarks Act, which states: "Anyone who can prove that he is entitled to a trademark in an application filed by another party may request that the Norwegian Industrial Property Office transfer the application. In such case, the person in question shall pay a new application fee. If there is doubt as to who is entitled to the right, the Norwegian Industrial Property Office may request that the party requesting the application be transferred to him bring legal actions within a time limit fixed by the Norwegian Industrial Property Office. If no such legal actions are brought within the time limit, the Norwegian Industrial Property Office may disregard the request. The party requesting the transfer shall be notified of this. While a transfer case is being examined by the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, the application may not be amended, shelved, refused or granted until the question of transfer has been finally decided. If legal actions have been brought concerning the right to the trademark, the Norwegian Industrial Property Office shall postpone examination of the case concerning registration or transfer until the proceedings have been decided with legally binding effect. The Norwegian Industrial Property Office shall notify the applicant and the party who has requested that the application be transferred to him of the decision in the transfer case. A final decision that the application is to be transferred shall be entered in the Trademark Register and published."
Abbath has until this Friday (December 12) to respond to the opposition, before the Norwegian Patent Office rules in the matter, probably in January or February.
IMMORTAL's core trio consisting of Abbath, Demonaz and Horgh has been together since 1996 and has been responsible for crafting the band's last five albums: "Blizzard Beasts" (1997), "At The Heart Of Winter" (1999), "Damned In Black" (2000), "Sons Of Northern Darkness" (2002) and the 2009 reunion album "All Shall Fall".
In a 2009 interview with Lords Of Metal, Demonaz clarified his status with IMMORTAL. "It's my band!" he laughed. "Me and Abbath started this band, and I got problems with my arms back in 1997. Instead of finding another guitar player, Abbath just took over the guitar and we went for a new bass player. But I still tour with the band, you know."

Re: Immortal
A novela Immortal continua:
IMMORTAL frontman Abbath (real name Olve Eikemo) claims that he rightfully attempted to secure exclusive rights to the band's name and logo after lyricist/guitarist Demonaz (real name Harald Nævdal) and drummer Horgh (real name Reidar Horghagen) effectively quit the legendary Norwegian black metal group this past summer.
According to Dagbladet, Abbath's application to the Norwegian Industrial Property Office — which was filed via his sole proprietorship Eikemo Compositions — has been stopped by a lawyer representing Demonaz and drummer Horgh, who want the IMMORTAL trademark to be shared by all three members.
In his latest letter to the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, Abbath says that he thought Demonaz and Horgh left IMMORTAL earlier this year after they moved out of the band's rehearsal room and stopped paying their share of the rent expenses.
"This summer Olve received amessage from Harald and Reidar indicating that they wanted to take a longer break from [IMMORTAL] after a conflict occurred between Olve and the other two bandmembers," writes Eikemo in his letter to the Norwegian Industrial Property Office.
"The band rents a rehearsal space where costs were being shared between the three bandmembers. Harald and Reidar did not want to pay their share of the rent since the band, in their opinion, was not active. Olve, as [IMMORTAL's chief] songwriter, was dependent on the rehearsal [space] and was willing to cover the rental costs himself. The other two members then moved out of the premises and stopped paying their share of the rent. Olve perceived this move as them pulling out of the band."
The letter also argues that Nævdal has not played guitar since he suffered an injury to his arm in 1997, and that Horghagen's role in the band has been limited to playing drums. In addition, Abbath claims that, as IMMORTAL's composer and frontman, he is virtually synonymous with the band and that, as a professional musician, he is dependent on revenue generated by IMMORTAL and therefore cannot simply take a break.
The letter also reveals that IMMORTAL is contracted to deliver a new album to the German label Nuclear Blast and that Abbath has now more or less completed work on the CD with the help of other musicians.
"[Nævdal and Horghagen's objection to Eikemo's application] appears to be an attempt to prevent Olve from engaging in his profession. He has spent 25 years trying to incorporate his character Abbath and his music under the trademark IMMORTAL. It seems unreasonable that the band's ex-members can prevent him from registering the trademark IMMORTAL, especially since they are not qualified and presumably have no desire to take part in any band activities in the future."
Nævdal told Dagbladet that he has seen Eikemo's letter. "I've read it and our lawyer has read it," he said. "We will come up with a response. [Abbath's letter] contains incorrect information."

Re: Immortal
Abbath - Puts Immortal To Rest, Moves On With Solo Band
It seems like the Legal Battles In The North over the Immortal's name/logo have ended without an agreement. The band's frontman Abbath has released a statement regarding the future of Immortal or rather the end. Essentially, Abbath will move on with a new band under his name and the name of Immortal, for the time being, will rest. Abbath will perform at Blastfest next year and already has announced a show in London this September as well.
Here is the full statement: "Immortal's frontman and founding member has been writing and rehearsing fervently, with a deluge of new material ready to be recorded; unable to come to an agreement in order move forward with the other members of the band, he has formed a new line up. Whilst grateful and respectful for the contributions of Demonaz, Horgh and Apollyon, the time is now right for Abbath to present his art to the world and continue to evolve the legacy.
"The next two years will see the release of a new album alongside select live performances - the first of these to be announced is The Forum in London on Friday 18th September. This will be Abbath's first time back on stage in the UK since triumphantly headlining Bloodstock Festival in 2011 alongside W.A.S.P. and Motörhead. Following this, February 2016 will see a return to playing on home soil as the headliner for the prestigious Blastfest in Bergen - on top of a 100% Norwegian line up.
"Abbath is a continued weaving of this artist's creative thread: new songs have been honed, ready to sit alongside classic Immortal material and rarely - if ever - played gems that will be unearthed from an epic catalogue spanning over two decades.
"Using his own name is a natural step for Abbath, having become iconic and synonymous with the band that he co-founded in 1990. That's 25 years of powering face first into the northern wind; a milestone for any band, and rather than exploit it by dragging Immortal's name through the mud, Abbath will instead carry his own on his back. The name of Immortal, for the time being, will rest; the essence, the power, the music - and Abbath - will not."
Fim de Immortal
